A new project helping the deeply abused and impoverished children of Cagayan De Oro (CDO) in the Philippines. The vast majority of these children have either escaped or have been recused from the sex trade, all of whom have truly harrowing stories to tell.

In response to the success of the first house built for the children of the city landfill of Cagayan D’Oro, on behalf of our clients, we have completed a larger home to accommodate more kids in November of 2019.

Orphaned children often end up working and living on the nearby city landfill, waste picking in poverty and often addicted to appetite suppressants. They work in extremely unhealthy and dangerous conditions, without access to education and are victim to many forms of abuse.

Working with a local organization who manages the community, we were able to construct a home with a family type setting in the same compound as the first house. Another organization built a second home, so there are now 3 houses for the growing community of children.

Most of the children are young girls, and are looked after by a local woman of the house. They have chores, attend a nearby school and most importantly have a safe place to sleep at night. The original group of children decorated the new house with colorful murals to help the new kids feel welcome. Everyone was excited for the growth of their community and to now have a place to call home.

This project was funded by Indigo Children’s Fund and the Economist.
