ACCURO 2024 Q2 UPDATE
Monsoon season in Nepal and across other areas Asia has been severe this year. Our construction projects have slowed a little as a result, but we are very much back on track. Because of our network and the skill sets of our teams we are often called in to help in the instances of natural disasters, in particular landslides which have been lethal in Nepal this year.
It's great that we have been able to assist and continue with our work in the field, however this has slowed reporting and admin a little. It seems like the worst is over and we can back to full working capacity on all fronts.
BRAVEHEARTS SENSORY LEANING CENTRE PHNOM PENH CAMBODIA
Our new sensory garden for deeply underprivileged and often heavily disabled children is nearing completion! The unique building is looking fantastic and is made almost entirely from locally sourced bamboo from the jungle. We anticipate opening the new centre in September 2024.
THE PAUL SWEET NURSERY
The Paul Sweet Nursery with integrated climbing frames and slides and swings is now complete. The children and the community are delighted with the new space. We even lent a our labours to help move the school too to its new location, both projects look great and are now fully in use.
GIRLS’ EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
We are thrilled to announce that Asha B.K. - our former peer educator and now employee of the GEP - has been accepted into the prestigious Aspire Leadership Program 2024 Cohort 3 at Harvard University's Aspire Institute.
This fully funded, fourteen-week online leadership program will empower Asha and other economically disadvantaged, first-generation college students to become future community leaders and reach their utmost potential in academic and professional endeavour.
This is along side a great many other achivments that have seen our girls winning awards throughout Asia. The girls have produced a beautiful video explaining the impact the program has had on not only them but their families and the community.
They also put a short video together showing the trainers in the community training up new girls to spread the learning and knowledge that they have developed in the program.
NUTRITION PROGRAM
The Nutrition program has been and continues to be a great success, we have put together a video showing its impact. We would very much like to suggest that we continue with this program in 2025 for another 2 year cycle as the impact continues to grow and we would like to take this work to more areas in need and push towards self sustainability in these rural areas. Please take a look at the progress so far…
GIRLS’ SAFE HOUSE AND EMPOWERMENT CENTRE
Work at the GLC continues, we are now onto flooring and tiling. Work has been a little slow this month as it has been an extremely heavy monsoon season in Nepal which makes work difficult.
There have been a great many lethal landslides and severe flooding around the county. Because of our network our teams are always on site when there are such disasters to help where they can.
Funding continues to be a challenge, however we have a number of fundraisers lined up over the next month which will help get us closer to our goal.
TAK SCHOOL
We are working with the community on designs that will incorporate elements of repurposed materials from the Paris Olympics, we are currently waiting to hear exactly what materials we will receive in order to finalise plans. This is delaying us by a few months but we feel the extra support and coverage that we will receive is well worth the wait. We have a number of designs for consideration one of which is below.
