July has been another positive month with the girls going from strength to strength in both knowledge and confidence.  After lots of kick starting of programmes over the previous months July gave us an opportunity to really start seeing the results of the systems and initiatives running smoothly.

We have been receiving a great deal of supportive national and local media coverage in Nepal and the general feeling surrounding the project, the girls and their communities is extremely positive.

Accomplishments
• Implementation of Pre-Test of ToT Manual
• 5-Days Training of Trainers on Girls Empowerment
• Regular Advisory Committee Meeting

July Activities

Pre-Test of Training Manual
We have developed the training manual with the help of independent technical experts for girl's empowerment and ran a pre-test before conducting the training for validation of the manual. It was conducted on 8th July 2018 and was lead by the independent/technical expert on the issue. The objective of the session was to explore the understanding level of the terminology used in the manual, languages and the case in general.

Outcomes:

  • Understanding of the level of conceptual clarity of the peer educators was strong.

  • Rapport building of the resource personnel with the peer educators.

Training of Trainers on Girls Empowerment

Five days residential Training of Trainers (ToT) on Girls Empowerment was conducted for 30 selected peer educators on 13th -17th July 2018. The five days session was taken by the specialists who developed the manual.  Some of the sessions were facilitated by different respected individuals such as the  chief of Police of Devchuli Municipality to share the cases of their interventions in abusive and negative situations involving females.

Likewise, community leaders and girls rights campaigners also took some sessions sharing information on the traditional harmful practices of child marriage, Chaupadi(Menstruation and dealing with girls during the menstruation period), case stories and response mechanisms when these situations occur.

At the same time one session was conducted with parents and peer educators to discuss and inform on why girl's empowerment is so important. In the conclusion of the five days training local level leaders, especially the deputy Mayor made a commitment to make a girls friendly municipality in collaboration with civil society organisations as well as increased investment in children through planning process. The training was brought to a conclusion with making an action plan with the peer educators to share the knowledge and skills they have learnt from their training.

Outcomes:

  • Conceptual clarity on violence against girls, children, harmful practices, laws and policies related to girls rights, child rights, roles and responsibility of different stakeholders.

  • Preparation of an action plan to be followed by each peer educator.

Advisory Committee Meeting
An advisory committee meeting was conducted on 29th July 2018, facilitated by the District
Program Coordinator. The agendas discussed were:

  • Review and planning of programme related projects

  • Visible results of the project since its implementation on the ground
