ACCURO 2022 PROJECT ROUND UP
2022 was a busy and successful year that saw the impact of Accuro projects spread nationwide in Nepal.
With Covid restrictions easing early in the year we were able to make up for any lost time caused by lock-downs.
Our work has been featured regularly throughout the year in national media causing many NGO’s to learn of our projects. These organisations frequently look to us for guidance, further enhancing our network throughout Nepal, something of great help when planning and researching projects in new geographic areas and can often help us reduce costs by sharing resources.
GIRLS’ EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
We are 2 thirds of the way through year 5 of the Girls’ Empowerment Program. When we began we were working with 24 girls against a significant community backlash derived from cultural beliefs around how women should be treated. Today we have worked with over 25,000 girls and have full support of the community, police and local governance.
We have trained teachers and youth workers throughout the country to pass on the work that we do to the girls in their communities. The program is beginning to employ girls who have been with us since the start, which is wonderful to see.
Our fortnightly national TV show is viewed by over 100,000 households (households often have as many as 10 family members) where politicians and influential individuals are interviewed; women’s rights are the main topic. Our girls often appear on the show and take great pride in asking the tough questions of the guests in order to effect policy change.
Without this program many of these young women would have entered into child marriage, not received and education, never have a career and in some instances enter into a life of marital slavery. Because of this program thousands of girls now have the option to go on to further education and have exciting career opportunities. On a day to day level the girls now get to do everything that was once only for boys; our girls football team beats many of the male teams in the region!
The ongoing success of this program is widely covered in the media which further spreads the work that we do. This life changing program has exceeded all that we had hoped for, this is largely down to the strength, drive and courage of the young women.
With the support of Accuro, we plan over the coming years to work directly with 100,000 girls throughout Nepal.

GIRLS’ LEARNING CENTRE
Our Girls’ Learning Centre construction is making great progress, on time and on budget. The main construction framework is complete and we are now moving onto outer brickwork. The building is going to be very special and of huge benefit to tens of thousands of girls from all over Nepal.
We have been getting a great deal of attention with this project and as a result the local council are improving the area by adding better roads and facilities as this centre is going to be bringing a lot more people to the region in years to come. It is fantastic to see the additional impact of this project in improving the local economy of this impoverished area.

NUTRITION PROGRAM
Behadi Rural Municipality,
Parbat District
Gandaki Province, Nepal.
The nutrition program is currently feeding 2570 children a midday meal at school, these are children who often did not attend school as their families could not provide them with a packed lunch. As a result of these meals school attendance is significantly increasing.
We are also working with just over 800 adults including pregnant women and new mothers ( the latter being a very high risk demographic for malnutrition). We have trained up health ambassadors in every municipality of Nepal who advise local communities on nutrition best practices meaning our reach goes far beyond the region in which we run the program.
Our weekly video nutrition podcast has around 200k viewers and our FM Radio Program is listened to by 120k households throughout Nepal. Radio broadcasts are one of the best ways to get information into rural areas where television is not always available.
In 2023 we will be taking our proven program and methods to an entirely new region whilst still maintaining the midday meal programs for the children with whom we have been working. We have set up systems to ensure momentum is not lost in the current area and we will be monitoring the whole time.
