Laharepauwa, Nepal.
This area was significantly impacted by the 2015 earthquake, there were 597 casualties and 54 deaths including many children. For the size of the area this is a very high concentration of incidents when compared with the rest of the country. The school was completely destroyed and the children had nowhere to learn.
There were a significant number of children experiencing mental health issues resulting from their traumatic experiences during and after the earthquake. Rebuilding the school not only provided a place for the children to learn but also a central location for the children to meet and begin the healing process with the help of professionals. The local community was very much behind this project offering free unskilled labour.
