Lundamatwe, Tanzania.

Throughout Tanzania there is a big problem with the distances children, in particular girls, have to travel in order to get to school. Many girls are forced to rent floor space in mud outhouses of local farms in close proximity to school.  This arrangement can have very worrying consequences, not least when the girls lack funds to pay rent.

Teenage pregnancy rates are extremely high and academic grades are very low.   Working with the Lyra foundation we built a dormitory at Lundamatwe Secondary School, Iringa.  We opened the doors in 2013 and currently 105 girls stay safely in the dorms, with a safe place to do their homework their grades have significantly improved.  There are no pregnancies in the dorm, this is a major step forward in providing the girls a safe, happy and prosperous future.
